Peripheral Arterial Disease
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) of the lower extremities, also known as "leg atherosclerosis" or simply "poor circulation", is a condition in which plaque builds up in the arteries in the legs, resulting in a reduction of blood flow. Left untreated, PAD can lead to leg pain while walking known as claudication), which can significantly impede quality of life. People with PAD - some 12 miilion in the United States alone - have an increased risk of coronary artery disease and stroke.
The goal of treatments for PAD is to reduce these risks, which can be done by improving circulation to the lower extremities and managing symptoms.
